MX518 Tips

The MX518 is a great mouse for gaming and basic computer use. One huge benefit of the mx518 is the number of buttons it has. For normal computer use, the buttons are set up in a pretty nice way to help out with everyday computer usage. On top of the normal right/left mouse button and mouse wheel, it also a built in application switcher which is very helpful. The application switcher is the two button below the scroll wheel.

Tips for Gaming

One key to utilizing the mx518 for gaming is getting all the buttons set up. You will want to set the extra buttons on the mouse to buttons that are common in the game you will be playing. For example, I play the game counter-strike. I set up the two buttons on the left to throw two different types of grenades. I used the top button for a flash and the bottom button for a smoke. This helped a lot because without the extra buttons I would have to hit 4, mouse1, mouse1 to throw a flash. The extra buttons could be very helpful in RTS (real time strategy) games in which many hotkeys are used. I would suggest finding a command in the RTS game that you use a lot and use the extra buttons for those commands.

A note on sensitivity

The mx518 can handle a very high sensitivity, up to 1600 or 1800 dpi. However, this doesn't mean you have to use it. In most fast FPS (First person shooter) games such as Quake, counter-strike, and call of duty, the pros suggest using a low sensitivity. Many pros leave it at 400 and then adjust upwards in game if they need it.
